Teikyo University of Japan in Durham is an overseas campus of Teikyo University located on the campus of Durham University in the Lafcadio Hearn Culture Centre. The campus was established in 1990 and operates as a language and cultural exchange facility for students of Teikyo’s School of Liberal Arts.
The university runs English language exchange programs . Students live in either one of two Japanese Halls of Residence or in accommodation at St Mary’s College – a college of Durham University.
The university hosts various outreach activities such as an annual ‘Japanese Festival’, a schools liaison program and its Japanese library is open to Durham University staff and students along with members of the local community on a part-time basis.
Our new parntnership with Teikyo is an exciting development for RoomToWrite which will be of mutual benefit to both partners. It will afford RoomToWrite authors and affiliates a base at the University and in Durham City where they can offer workshops as well as cultural events: author readings, discussions, book launches etc. There is also a wonderful library space to work in. At the same time RoomToWrite will continue to offer its creative workshops and opportunities to the many Teikyo students.
RoomToWrite’s first Teikyo workshop will be on the Novella and will take place on Saturday October 25th at the Lafcadio Hearn Culture Centre – more details and a chance to sign up will follow soon
